True lavender, or narrow-leaved lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) – also known simply as lavender – is a plant species belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Alcohol-based preparations of lavender are used as relaxing rubs for rheumatic complaints, nerve and limb pain, and circulatory problems. In folk medicine, it is also commonly used for restlessness, difficulty falling asleep, and upper abdominal complaints such as bloating, irritable stomach or nervous bowel symptoms.
