The roots and flowers of the primrose are primarily used. The plant’s main active ingredient is saponins, but it also contains flavones, essential oil, silicic acid and tannins. Due to its secretolytic and expectorant properties, the primrose is used to treat coughs, bronchitis and colds. In folk medicine, it is recommended for headaches, neuralgia and dizziness.
