The potency tree is a plant species of the sandalwood order (Santalales) and belongs to the Olacaceae family. The pharmaceutically used drug Muira puama lignum, the potency wood, is obtained from the wood and roots of the tree. Potency wood was already used by the Indians as an aphrodisiac.
