Parsley is a plant species belonging to the genus Petroselinum within the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). Parsley fruit essential oil is extracted from the fruits. In the past, it was commonly used as a diuretic for oedema and misused as an abortifacient. Nowadays, parsley water is mainly used for complaints affecting the gastrointestinal tract, the kidneys and the urinary tract. It also stimulates digestion.
