Hops are a climbing plant from the hemp family (Cannabaceae). Hildegard von Bingen already mentioned the antibacterial properties of hops, pointing out that their bitterness prevents putrefaction. Hops are also known to have calming, blood-purifying, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and tonic properties. It is also recommended for stomach and intestinal cramps, palpitations and insomnia.
