Motherwort (Leonurus cardica L.), also known as heartwort or heartwort, belongs to the Lamiaceae family. Its constituents include iridoids (leonuride, galiridoside, ajugoside, reptoside), bitter substances, flavonoids, caffeic acid derivatives, tannins and essential oil. The use of motherwort has a long tradition. Its positive influence on the heart has been known since time immemorial. In folk medicine, the herb is said to have antispasmodic, calming and antihypertensive properties.
