Deer's tongue (Asplenium scolopendrium L) is a member of the striped fern family (Aspleniaceae). Hildegard von Bingen already mentioned hart's tongue in her writings. She recommended a deer tongue herbal wine, a so-called "deer tongue elixir", which was said to have a positive effect on the liver, lungs and intestines. It is still very popular today due to its detoxifying properties.
