Darjeeling is a variety of tea from India. This popular variety can be traced back to the English botanist Dr Campbell, who specialised in tea cultivation. The harvest is carried out primarily by women, who pick only ‘two leaves and a bud’ from each shoot. In Chinese folk medicine, Darjeeling is used as a stimulant to treat tiredness and drowsiness, diarrhoea (due to tannins) and inflammation of the oral mucosa.
