The condurango shrub (Marsdenia condurango) comes from the silk plant family (Asclepiadaceae). The dried bark of the shrub with the ingredients condurangosides, steroid saponins, flavonoids and coumarin derivatives is mainly used. Condurango bark is said to have positive effects on digestive problems and stomach pain. In folk medicine, the bark is used as a bittering agent. It can increase the secretion of saliva and gastric juice and help with a lack of appetite.
