Clove root (Geum urbanum) belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae). Clove root mainly contains tannins and essential oil with the main component eugenol. Hildegard von Bingen used clove root as an aphrodisiac. In folk medicine, the plant is used for diarrhoea, stomach complaints, loss of appetite and as a tonic.
