Centaury (Centaurium erythraea) is a member of the gentian family (Gentianacea). Centaury has been valued as a medicinal plant since ancient times. Like all gentian plants, centaury belongs to the Amara family due to its high bitter substance content. The plant has appetising properties and is used in folk medicine to treat fever, gout and nervous disorders.
