Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) belongs to the labiate family (Lamiaceae). The most important constituents of rosemary leaves include essential oil and labiate tannins (rosmarinic acid). They are said to have antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, cholagogue, choleretic and spasmolytic effects. Rosemary leaves are mainly used for dyspeptic complaints, to support the liver and gallbladder and for digestive complaints.
Lovage (Levisticum officinale), also known as Maggikraut or Lus(t)stock, belongs to the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). The plant drug should not be missing in the medicine cabinet. Lovage has diuretic, antispasmodic and expectorant effects.
Centaurium erythraea belongs to the gentian family (Gentianacea). Like all gentian plants, centaury belongs to the Amara family due to its high bitter substance content. The plant has appetising properties and is used in folk medicine to treat fever, gout and nervous disorders.
