Hildegard von Bingen was already aware of the beneficial properties of blackberries. Due to their high tannin content, dried blackberries are particularly valued for their beneficial effect on the digestive tract. Their use to treat diarrhoea, in particular, has a long tradition. In folk medicine, preparations made from blackberries are used, for example, internally for haemorrhoids and externally for various skin problems.
