Hildegard von Bingen already knew about the positive properties of blackberries. Due to their high tannin content, the favourable influence of dried blackberry fruits on the intestinal tract was particularly appreciated. Its use for diarrhoea in particular has a long tradition. In folk medicine, blackberry preparations are used internally for haemorrhoids, for example, and are also used externally for various skin problems.
