The balloon flower (Platycodon grandiflorus), also known as the Chinese bellflower, belongs to the bellflower family (Campanulaceae). As the flower buds swell up before they open, the plant is called the balloon flower. The root is used in traditional Chinese and Korean medicine to stimulate the immune system.
