Parsley is a plant of the genus Petroselinum in the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). The essential parsley fruit oil is extracted from the fruits. In the past, it was popularly used to drain oedema and abused as an abortifacient. Nowadays, parsley water is mainly used for gastrointestinal, kidney and urinary tract complaints. It also stimulates digestive activity.
