With its intense aroma, aniseed (Pimpinella anisum), one of the oldest spice plants in Europe, brings back childhood memories, as it is used in numerous Christmas confectionery products. But aniseed not only refines bread and baked goods, it also has various other functions. It is no coincidence that this plant was named medicinal plant of the year 2024 by the Association for the Promotion of Natural Healing (NHV Theophrastus). The ingredients of aniseed stimulate the glands of the gastrointestinal tract, thereby having a beneficial effect on these organs and preventing the unpleasant formation of excessive digestive gases.
The essential oils of this spice plant are partly excreted via the lungs. Therefore, and due to its mucus-promoting properties, aniseed also supports the respiratory tract and thus helps to expel germs. Last but not least, aniseed can help to increase milk flow in breastfeeding mothers.
