Angelica root (Angelica archangelica L.), also known as angelica, belongs to the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). It is native to Northern Europe and Northern Asia. The beneficial properties of angelica root are attributed to the essential oils and bitter compounds it contains. Angelica root has particularly beneficial effects on the stomach and intestines, as well as on feelings of fullness and flatulence. It is also used to treat loss of appetite.
