Mineral salts are functional ingredients that are used in oral care products. When eating meals, tooth enamel is attacked by acids that form in dental plaque. This acid dissolves important mineral salts from the enamel and weakens it. If you use a toothpaste with mineral salts, the enamel is remineralised and hardened again when you brush your teeth. This plays a major role in the prevention of tooth decay. Mineral salts therefore protect the teeth against harmful acids in the mouth and serve as an important measure to prevent tooth decay.
