What is Boswellia?
Boswellia – also known as frankincense – is a genus of plants in the family Burseraceae. The plant is characterised by its boswellic acid content and has had a long tradition and significance in Ayurvedic medicine in India, the Middle East and China for over a thousand years.
What is Pycnogenol®?
Pycnogenol® is a natural plant extract derived from the bark of the French maritime pine, which grows along the south-western Atlantic coast of France and is also referred to as a ‘natural all-rounder’.
The original extract contains a natural combination of phytochemicals with unique properties. Horphag Research has dedicated 40 years of research to demonstrating the efficacy, quality and safety of Pycnogenol®. To date, the natural extract has been tested on more than 10,000 study participants, and a total of 160 clinical studies and 420 scientific publications have been published, all of which support the unique properties of Pycnogenol®.
What is curcumin?
Turmeric (Curcuma longa), also known as yellow ginger or Indian ginger, belongs to the ginger family and is native to India and South-East Asia. Many people are no doubt familiar with turmeric as an ingredient in curry powder and as a natural colouring agent. However, turmeric has also been used in Indonesia and India (Ayurveda) for several thousand years. Its main active ingredients are curcumin and other curcuminoids, which belong to the group of phenolic phytochemicals.
What makes Dr Wolz’s curcumin special
Not all curcumin is the same. To reap the full benefits of this valuable phytochemical, it is necessary to significantly increase its bioavailability. In many products, this is achieved by adding piperine (from pepper) or micelles (‘flavourings’). The problem with this is that all these methods can potentially have adverse effects on human metabolism. Dr Wolz therefore relies on cyclodextrin – a natural substance completely free of side effects – to improve bioavailability.
Curcumin in Phytoflam Dr. Wolz®
The use of cyclodextrin increases the bioavailability of the curcumin in Phytoflam Dr. Wolz® by a factor of 40 compared with pure curcumin powder or conventional curcumin preparations. The curcumin molecule is bound within a ring of cyclodextrin molecules, thereby making it water-soluble.
Vitamin C for cell protection and the immune system
Physical exertion can lead to the formation of so-called free radicals. These are oxygen molecules that move uncontrollably within the body because they are missing an electron. As a result, they can damage healthy cells. Vitamin C has the ability to protect cells from oxidative stress,4 and can therefore also be described as a ‘free radical scavenger’. As free radicals can also impair the immune system, vitamin C also supports the normal function ofthe immune system⁵. The vitamin C in Phytoflam Dr. Wolz® is derived from rosehip fruit powder and is therefore of natural origin.
1* Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of bones, cartilage and collagen formation.
2** Vitamin D contributes to normal muscle function.
3 Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the nervous system.
4 Vitamin C helps to protect cells from oxidative stress. 5 Vitamins C and D contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system.
