The twisted wood of the hawthorn tree was called ‘krateios’ (firm, strong) by the Greeks, from which the botanical name Crataegus is derived. Indeed, the hawthorn possesses an almost indomitable vitality, as demonstrated by specimens over 1,200 years old. Does this vitality also pass on to those who use its flowers and leaves? Many myths surround this tree or shrub, native to Europe, which protectively encircled Sleeping Beauty’s castle. As a dietary supplement, the flowers and leaves are used in extract form. Unfortunately, however, it is not permitted to state how the phenomenal hawthorn works when it comes to dietary supplements.
