The ground rhizome of the plant is used as a spice. This rhizome is strikingly coloured. The Indian turmeric root (lat. name Curcuma Longa L.) contains, among other things, the secondary plant substance curcumin. Doppelherz Curcuma 750 contains a high-quality curcuma root extract in combination with a vegetable capsule shell. The capsules are therefore also suitable for vegetarians.

The food supplement contains 750 mg of high-quality curcuma root extract (from Curcuma Longa L.) with a natural curcumin content of 35 mg plus 2 mg piperine and 1000 I.U. vitamin D3. Piperine is obtained from black pepper.

One capsule contains 25 µg vitamin D3. This corresponds to 1000 I.U. (International Units) of vitamin D3. Our body can produce vitamin D itself through regular exposure to sunlight on the skin. However, depending on our living conditions, this natural production is often insufficient in our latitudes. If the body's own vitamin D production is lacking or low, an increased intake of vitamin D via food is therefore required.

Curcuma - India's sacred plant

The curcuma plant belongs to the ginger family and is mainly native to Asia, China and India, where it has been known for around 5000 years. The rhizome of the plant is particularly valued and is used in a variety of ways, including as a spice. In India and South East Asia, curcuma is revered as a sacred plant.

In Germany, turmeric is mainly used as a spice in the kitchen. Due to the unique, pungent flavour of the ground rhizome, the plant is an ingredient in Worcester sauce, mustard and curry powder, for example.

Curcumin - the colouring agent of turmeric

Curcuma not only gives dishes their own pungent flavour, but also the typical yellow colour - hence the common name "turmeric". This is due to the ingredient curcumin, which protects the plant from bacteria and predators.

Turmeric can be found in curry powder and many ready meals, for example, and many a kitchen "cheats" a little, as curcumin can be used as an affordable substitute for the precious saffron due to its beautiful yellow colour.
