Properties and effectiveness:
Diarrhoea is one of the more or less frequently occurring conditions that are usually based on easily identifiable causes. Improper nutrition in the sense of intolerance (e.g. milk, spoilt food with its toxins) as well as viral and bacterial infections, which often occur during a change of climate, can be the causes. Chronic and long-lasting diarrhoea, also alternating with constipation, should certainly be investigated clinically.
Most people use their own experiences over time and can often anticipate diarrhoea before certain events, such as eating or travelling and dietary changes, and sometimes take preventative measures. The nature of these diarrhoeal diseases can range from mild forms with hardly any significant impairment of general health to severe forms with rapid loss of strength and a threatening condition.
The starting position of the sick person, whether a weakened child or a weakened adult, certainly plays a not insignificant role. It is also the individual's way of reacting and the ability to react that play a significant role in the course of any illness. It is not always possible to successfully treat the cause, e.g. when it comes to nutritional influences or viral infections, but rather the reactions that take place and their positive influence must be the aim of the treatment. Not every case of diarrhoea can be treated with an intestinal antiseptic from the outset, although this often has considerable after-effects. The dysbacteria occurring in the intestine is often not the cause but the consequence of the disease. The course of the disease must be used to recognise at what point antibiotic therapy may need to be used, initially as an accompanying measure. Especially in the case of diarrhoea, these accompanying measures, such as a regular supply of fluids and electrolytes and intestinal soothing, play an important role. Homeopathic remedies can intervene sensibly in the process of the disorder from the outset, which can range from localised irritation of the mucous membranes, vascular and circulatory disorders to toxic impairment of the entire organism with loss of strength.

Ferrum phosphoricum, iron phosphate, is frequently used in homeopathy, especially in the 12th potency, when it comes to the stage of acute or sub-acute inflammation with no impairment of the general condition. The disease has not yet localised, so to speak, but has put the organism into an acute state of readiness to defend itself, in which it takes initial reaction measures. It is the inflammatory processes that start up in a storm, so to speak, and may already be in a position to quickly terminate the clinical picture again. It is the relationship of the remedy to vascular erethism (= blood vessel fullness) that is one of its main areas of action.

Veratrum album, the white germer, embodies the second stage of the disease, so to speak, when the irritation of the mucous membranes with diarrhoea and vomiting has led to circulatory disorders with profuse sweating and possibly the threat of collapse. These two stages often merge into one another. Veratrum can significantly stabilise the circulatory situation.

Arsenicum album, arsenic, is used in homeopathy in potentised form when symptoms of poisoning with vascular paralysis and organ impairment have already occurred, often associated with vomiting, violent diarrhoea similar to rice water, bloody diarrhoea and decay. The threatening nature of the condition is unmistakable.

Certainly, even with their profound and transformative effects, these medicines cannot be considered as sole remedies. However, there is often a rapid succession of the stages of the disease, so that with this remedy a significant positive influence on the overall condition can be achieved from the beginning and often a sudden turnaround towards recovery occurs. Furthermore, the effect of the remedies goes beyond their pure organ relationship and encompasses the person whose constitution is particularly susceptible to such conditions and who is characterised by irritability, vascular reaction, circulatory instability and rapid loss of strength. The selection of this remedy is based on an understanding of the sum of these possible factors and of the homeopathic remedy in its entire dimension.

Side effects:
None known to date.

Dosage:
20 drops 3 to 5 times a day, acutely 20 drops every hour. Shake before use!

General advice:
Homeopathic drops should be taken undiluted, if possible directly on the tongue, as they are absorbed via the oral mucosa. If the flavour is too sharp, the counted drops can be diluted in a glass with a few drops of water. Unless otherwise stated, homeopathic drops should always be taken on an empty stomach, i.e. before eating.
From herbal and other natural products, in higher concentrations, temperature fluctuations and other storage conditions may cause turbidity and slight precipitation, which have no influence on the effectiveness.

Special warnings for safe use:
This medicinal speciality contains approx. 67.9% alcohol by volume and must not be given to alcoholics. For children, the counted drops should be diluted with a little water (2-3 tablespoons). Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The doctor should decide on the administration during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Medical advice is required at the first sign of side effects.
