Health for the whole family - vitamin D and C as practical mini tabs
An adequate supply of nutrients is crucial for health and well-being at any age. A balanced diet should be the basis for this. However, the need for certain nutrients can increase in special life situations - for example, in times of high stress, in the cold season or with an unbalanced diet.
The Doppelherz system VITAMIN D + C MINI-TABS with a delicious orange-lemon flavour offer a practical way of providing the whole family with selected nutrients in a targeted manner. The handy tabs combine 10 µg vitamin D and 80 mg vitamin C and can simply be sucked or chewed - without any liquid.
The innovative MINI-TABS provide the body with important nutrients:
- Vitamin D and C support the normal function of the immune system.
- Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.
- Vitamin D contributes to the normal utilisation of calcium.
- Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function.
- Vitamin D contributes to cell division.
Vitamin D - the vitamin of the sun
Vitamin D is a true all-rounder for our health: it plays a role in normal bone maintenance, normal muscle function and the normal function of the immune system. In contrast to most vitamins, we do not cover most of our vitamin D requirements through food, but through the skin's own synthesis.
Sunlight is the key to vitamin D production: when UV radiation hits our skin, a complex chain of processes is activated that ultimately leads to the formation of biologically active vitamin D. This is why vitamin D is also commonly referred to as the "sun vitamin".
Around 90 % of our vitamin D requirement is covered by this endogenous production. Nevertheless, there are often challenges in Germany when it comes to ensuring an adequate supply:
- Geographical location: during the winter months and in northern regions, there is often insufficient sunlight to produce enough vitamin D.
- Lifestyle: Little time outdoors and clothing that covers a lot of skin make vitamin D synthesis more difficult.
- Age: The ability to produce vitamin D decreases with increasing age. At the age of 70, it is only 25% of the capacity of younger people.
- Skin type: Darker skin produces less vitamin D than lighter skin, as the higher melanin content of the skin absorbs more UV rays.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is involved in numerous metabolic processes. For example, vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system and helps to protect cells from oxidative stress. Vitamin C also increases the absorption of iron.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are particularly rich sources of vitamin C. Well-known sources include citrus fruits, but rosehips, sea buckthorn berries and the cabbage vegetables we grow, such as kale, broccoli and Brussels sprouts, are also rich in vitamin C. During preparation, it should be noted that vitamin C is water-soluble and sensitive to heat. Fruit and vegetables should therefore be eaten as fresh as possible and gently steamed.
Why does the body need vitamin C and D regularly?
- Vitamin D: The sun vitamin can only be produced under certain conditions. The body usually produces less vitamin D, especially in the darker months of the year. If sufficient vitamin D is not produced in this way for a variety of reasons, dietary supplements can be a sensible alternative.
- Vitamin C: The body is not able to store vitamin C in the long term, which is why regular intake through food is necessary. As a rule, a balanced diet can cover the requirement, but incorrect storage or prolonged cooking can reduce the vitamin C content in food. In addition, there are life situations, such as increased physical exertion or in the winter months, when the immune system is particularly challenged, in which the need for vitamin C can increase.
