Vitamin D contributes to:
- maintaining normal bones
- to the maintenance of normal muscle function
- to normal calcium levels in the blood
- to the normal utilisation of calcium and phosphorus
- to the normal functioning of the immune system
*Vitamin K contributes to:
- to the maintenance of normal bones
- to normal blood clotting
What is vitamin D and what is it needed for?
The human body can produce vitamin D itself, provided that sufficient UV light reaches the skin. Vitamin D is therefore often simply referred to as the ‘sun vitamin’. In Germany, in most cases, it is sufficient to spend 5 to 25 minutes a day in the sun. Between October and March, the sun’s rays are not strong enough to produce sufficient vitamin D. The body therefore draws on its own stores during this period. Vitamin D intake supports the immune system, muscles and bones, dental health, the utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, and the regulation of calcium levels in the blood.
What is vitamin K and what is it needed for?
Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin and helps maintain normal bones and normal blood clotting. In this context, the letter ‘K’ stands for coagulation (blood clotting). Vitamin K occurs in different forms: vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), found mainly in the leaves of green plants, and vitamin K2 (menaquinone). The term ‘vitamin K2’ encompasses several menaquinones (MK), including MK-7, which is contained in Dekristolvit® D3 K2 tablets. Vitamin K2 promotes the formation of osteocalcin, which is required for the uptake of calcium into the bones.
How do Dekristolvit® D3 K2 tablets work?
Studies have shown that vitamins D3 and K2 work closely together. Whilst vitamin D3 promotes the absorption of calcium from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood, thereby regulating calcium absorption, vitamin K2 ensures that the calcium reaches the bones. It is therefore important to ensure an adequate intake of both vitamin D3 and vitamin K2.
