Calcium Sandoz contains a rich source of calcium, a vital mineral necessary for bone formation and maintenance.

Calcium Sandoz is used to prevent and treat calcium deficiency and, together with other medicines, to prevent and treat osteoporosis (bone loss).

Calcium Sandoz is used, in addition to vitamin D3, in the treatment of rickets (softening of growing bones in children) and osteomalacia (softening of bones in adults).

Calcium is absorbed by the small intestine and distributed throughout the body via the blood.

Calcium plays an important role in several bodily functions. It is essential for nerves, muscles and heart function as well as for blood clotting. It also mediates the functioning of many hormones. In order to fulfil these various roles, calcium must be available in the appropriate tissues in the correct dosage.

Directions for use

Please follow the instructions carefully to ensure that Calcium Sandoz works properly.

Children take 1 effervescent tablet (a single dose) once or twice daily (equivalent to 500 - 1000 mg calcium).
Adults take 1 effervescent tablet (a single dose) one to three times a day (corresponding to 500 - 1500 mg calcium).

Dissolve Calcium Sandoz in a glass of water (approx. 200 ml) and drink immediately. Do not swallow or chew the tablet.

Calcium Sandoz can be taken with or without food (see section "When taking Calcium Sandoz with food and drink" for further advice).

How long should you take Calcium Sandoz?

Take Calcium Sandoz at the recommended daily dose for as long as your doctor has advised. As Calcium Sandoz is used to prevent and treat calcium deficiency and, together with other medicines, to prevent and treat osteoporosis (bone loss), this is likely to be a long-term treatment.

Ingredients

The active ingredients are calcium lactogluconate and calcium carbonate.

Each 500 mg effervescent tablet contains 1132 mg calcium lactogluconate and 875 mg calcium carbonate (equivalent to 500 mg calcium).

The other ingredients are: anhydrous citric acid, orange flavour powder (contains: Benzyl alcohol, sorbitol [E 420], glucose and sulphur dioxide [E 220]), aspartame (E 951), macrogol 6000 and sodium hydrogen carbonate.

Calcium-Sandoz® can be taken with or without food and is suitable for diabetics (1 effervescent tablet of 500 mg contains 0.002 bread units).
