Ca-D3-STADA plus K2 film-coated tablets are a dietary supplement with 500 mg calcium, 2,000 I.U. vitamin D3 and 80 µg vitamin K2. This combination is ideal for maintaining healthy bones, especially in women aged 50 and over.

Calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K

• Women over the age of 50 in particular often suffer from postmenopausal bone mineral density deficiency.
• Calcium and vitamin D help to reduce the loss of bone minerals in postmenopausal women. Low bone mineral density is a risk factor for bone fractures caused by osteoporosis. The positive effect starts with an intake of 1,200 mg calcium and 20 μg vitamin D3 from all sources (including food), especially for women over 50. Calcium is the most important mineral in the human body in terms of quantity at approx. 1 kg.
• Calcium is an essential building block of tooth and bone tissue and gives bones their strength. A sufficient supply of calcium is therefore the basis for healthy bones.
• Among other things,vitamin D is responsible for calcium absorption from the intestine and for bone mineralisation. Only 10 to 20 % of the daily requirement of vitamin D can be met through diet; the rest, approx. 80 to 90 %, is produced by the body itself through the effects of sunlight (specifically UVB radiation) on the skin. In the absence of sun exposure, e.g. in the winter months, sufficient vitamin D production is not guaranteed and our body has to fall back on reserves. In addition, as we get older, our ability to produce vitamin D through the skin itself decreases.
• Calcium and vitamin D in combination Our body needs vitamin D to store calcium in the bones. In order to prevent up to 80 % of the calcium absorbed from being excreted unused, it is important to take vitamin D at the same time to ensure calcium absorption. Without a corresponding additional dose of vitamin D, calcium alone is not very effective in the long term.
• Like vitamin D,vitamin K belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins. It occurs in two different forms: Plants, especially green leafy vegetables, produce what is known as vitamin K1 (phylloquinone), which can be absorbed through food. In contrast to vitamin K1, which is mainly found in the chloroplasts of green plants, vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is mainly produced by microorganisms - including the bacteria in our own intestinal flora, provided this has not been contaminated by antibiotics, for example. However, vitamin K is not only synthesised in the intestine, but can also be absorbed through food. The foods richest in vitamin K include raw sauerkraut, butter, egg yolk, liver, some types of cheese and the fermented soya product natto.

Directions

• Swallow 1 film-coated tablet daily with a glass of water without chewing.
• Advice: Use in children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding or in people taking anticoagulants, after consultation with a doctor or pharmacist. Protect from heat and moisture.
