What is buffered vitamin C?

"Buffered" means that the vitamin C it contains has an almost neutral pH value, as almost all of the acidity has been reduced. This is how it works: the acid is bound with the help of an alkaline material (usually calcium). The resulting calcium ascorbate is alkaline, does not irritate the stomach and is therefore much better tolerated.
