Zeaxanthin is a pigment from the carotenoid group that occurs naturally in our eyes. The macula (yellow spot) in particular contains high concentrations of this essential carotenoid. Zeaxanthin filters the high-energy wavelengths of light, which are causally linked to the amount of defective DNA and a shorter lifespan of cells. These highly reactive chemical compounds attack the cells in the eye and thus contribute to premature cell ageing.
