Bios Proline 500 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing the amino acid L-proline.
Like all proteinogenic amino acids, proline is involved in the formation of proteins. This cyclic amino acid forms part of the pool of free amino acids in the human body and plays an essential role in various physiological processes. Proline inhibits the activity of collagenases, enzymes that catalyse the breakdown of collagen. Proline therefore helps to preserve these important structural proteins. In the skin, collagen is a key component of connective tissue – after all, 70 per cent of the skin consists of this protein.
L-proline therefore also plays a key role in tissue repair and cell renewal. Proline is also required for the formation of bone and cartilage. Meat and dairy products, in particular, contain high levels of proline, which is why Bios’ 500 mg Proline capsules may be of particular interest to those following a vegan diet.
