Onion powder Bios capsules contain onion powder and quercetin in an odourless hard gelatine capsule. The onion (Allium cepa) is a lily plant. The most important ingredients are sulphur-containing amino acids (e.g. alliin, propylalliin), essential oil, peptides, flavonoids (belong to the polyphenols), diphenylalanine, sucrose, inulin, pectin and vitamin C. The tear-irritating thiopropanal-5-oxide is formed during the cleavage of propylalliin. The yellow-skinned varieties in particular are rich in the flavonoid quercetin, which is said to have strong antioxidant properties.
