Bios L-Ornithine 400 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing the amino acid L-ornithine. L-ornithine is a semi-essential amino acid that is formed in the body from L-arginine.

The amino acid L-ornithine is an intermediate product of the urea cycle. It is formed from the amino acid arginine and can be converted to citrulline. L-ornithine supports the conversion of ammonia into urea, which is then excreted from the body via the urine. Ammonia is produced as a waste product during digestion. If the liver is overloaded, the degradation mechanism of ammonia functions inadequately, so that this harmful substance can enter the brain unhindered and trigger serious reactions there.

L-ornithine also serves as a starting material for the synthesis of polyamines, which are important for cell division and for the formation of DNA, proteins and blood vessels.
