Beipackzettel ansehen

Discover the sterile Biatain® alginate dressings for optimum wound healing. Highly absorbent & conformable. Ideal for heavily exuding wounds.

Biatain Alginate can be used to treat all moderately to heavily exuding wounds, in particular leg ulcers, pressure sores, diabetic foot ulcers, split-thickness wounds and traumatic wounds. Biatain Alginate should not be used to treat dry wounds or to stop severe bleeding.

Biatain Alginate is a highly absorbent alginate wound dressing for the treatment of heavily exuding wounds of any size, shape and depth. Compared to other alginate and hydrofibre dressings, Biatain Alginate is characterised by its superior absorption capacity.

Minimised risk of leakage and maceration

The excellent absorption capacity of Biatain Alginate binds the exudate inside the wound pad, preventing leaks that could damage the surrounding skin.

Mode of action

On contact with wound exudate, Biatain Alginate forms a soft, cohesive gel that ensures an optimal moist wound environment and promotes wound healing.

Key benefits

  • Thanks to its unique structural integrity, the dressing can be removed in one piece.
  • Biatain Alginate has a proven haemostatic effect.
  • In contrast to hydrofibre dressings, alginate dressings have a haemostatic effect, i.e. they can stop minor bleeding by releasing calcium ions.
  • Biatain Alginate is ideal for wound cavities.
  • The design and structural integrity of the dressing allows it to be customised to the exact size, shape and depth of the wound.
  • The dressing adapts to the wound bed and the contours of the wound, an important prerequisite for the wound healing process.

Indications

  • Biatain Alginate Wound Dressing is indicated for the following wounds: moderately to heavily exuding chronic and acute wounds such as decubitus ulcers, venous and arterial leg ulcers, diabetic foot syndrome, deep wounds/wound cavities, cuts, skin abrasions, graft and split skin removal sites, post-operative wounds, superficial burns, second degree burns.
  • Biatain Alginate dressings can also be used to stop slightly bleeding superficial wounds.
  • Biatain Alginate dressings are suitable for use under compression bandages

How to use

  • Biatain Alginate can be cut to fit the wound size using sterile scissors. Dispose of any remaining dressing material due to the risk of contamination.
  • Application of the secondary dressing: Biatain Alginate should be used with a secondary covering dressing, e.g. Biatain Foam Dressing or Comfeel Plus Hydrocolloid Dressing (depending on the clinical condition of the wound).
  • Biatain Alginate can be easily removed by rinsing with sterile saline. Remove the dressing with tweezers to avoid pain and injury to the newly formed tissue.
