Biatain® Alginate tamponades are particularly suitable for moderately to heavily exuding, fibrinous wounds. Alginate with haemostatic effect for cleaning wounds and for use in wound cavities.
Biatain Alginate can be used to treat all moderately to heavily exuding wounds, especially leg ulcers, decubitus ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, split skin wounds and traumatic wounds. Biatain Alginate should not be used to treat dry wounds or to stop severe bleeding. Biatain Alginate is a highly absorbent alginate wound dressing for the treatment of heavily exuding wounds of any size, shape and depth. Compared to other alginate and hydrofibre dressings, Biatain Alginate is characterised by its superior absorption capacity.
Minimised risk of leakage and maceration
The excellent absorption capacity of Biatain Alginate binds the exudate inside the wound pad, preventing leaks that could damage the surrounding skin.
Mode of action
On contact with wound exudate, Biatain Alginate forms a soft, cohesive gel that ensures an optimal moist wound environment and promotes wound healing.
Key benefits
- Thanks to its unique structural integrity, the dressing can be removed in one piece.
- Biatain Alginate has a proven haemostatic effect.
- In contrast to hydrofibre dressings, alginate dressings have a haemostatic effect, i.e. they can stop minor bleeding by releasing calcium ions.
- Biatain Alginate is ideal for wound cavities.
- The design and structural integrity of the dressing allows it to be customised to the exact size, shape and depth of the wound.
- The dressing adapts to the wound bed and the contours of the wound, an important prerequisite for the wound healing process.
- Biatain Alginate is available as a wound dressing and as a wound tape.
Dosage form
Wound tamponades sterile
Application
- The Biatain Alginate tamponade can be cut with sterile scissors to fit small or narrow wounds. Dispose of any remaining dressing material due to the risk of contamination.
- The Biatain Alginate Tamponade should be applied evenly/loosely in the wound without tamping it down. This allows the alginate fibre to form a moist gel and adapt to the size of the wound cavity.
- Application of the secondary dressing: The Biatain Alginate Tamponade should be used with a secondary covering dressing, e.g. Biatain Foam Dressing or Biatain Foam Dressing. Biatain Foam Dressing or Comfeel Plus Hydrocolloid Dressing (depending on the clinical condition of the wound).
- The Biatain Alginate Tamponade can be easily removed by rinsing with sterile saline solution. Remove the dressing with tweezers to avoid pain and injury to the newly formed tissue.
