Biatain® Ag Non-Adherent: The antimicrobial foam dressing with silver for professional wound care. Provides optimum exudate management and continuous silver release. Ideal for infected wounds or where there is a risk of infection. Non-adherent.

Biatain Ag non-adherent can be used to treat a wide range of exuding wounds with delayed healing due to bacterial colonisation or wounds at risk of infection, in particular leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, second degree burns, split skin donor sites, diabetic foot ulcers, post-operative wounds and skin abrasions. Biatain Ag can be used under compression therapy. Biatain Ag is a soft, conformable foam dressing with silver complex, which has been proven to contribute to faster healing of infected wounds.

• Unique 3D foam structure for excellent absorption: On contact with wound exudate, Biatain's unique 3D foam structure adapts optimally to the wound bed and the contours of the wound - even under compression.
• Specially developed to prevent infections: The patented silver complex and the continuous release of silver ensure a homogeneous distribution of silver ions and thus a consistent antimicrobial effect.
• Patented silver complex with broad spectrum antimicrobial activity: Independent studies have shown that Biatain Ag is the only wound dressing that is effective against all bacteria typically found in infected, non-healing wounds. Clinical studies show that infected wounds heal faster with Biatain Ag than with other wound dressings, including other antimicrobial dressings.
• Sustained antimicrobial effect over the entire wearing time: The silver release profile ensures a sustained antimicrobial effect over the entire wearing time of up to 7 days.
• Mode of action: On contact with wound exudate, silver is continuously released into the wound for up to 7 days.

Areas of application

Biatain Ag non-adherent:

• is indicated for a wide range of low to heavily exuding wounds with delayed healing due to bacteria or wounds at risk of infection. These include acute wounds such as second-degree burns, split-thickness wounds, post-operative wounds and traumatic wounds as well as chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure sores and non-infected diabetic foot syndrome.

How to use

Preparation:

• Clean the wound and the skin around the wound in accordance with local guidelines, e.g. with lukewarm water or physiological saline solution.
• Carefully dry the skin around the wound.
• If a film, cream, ointment or similar product is used, allow the skin to dry before applying the dressing.
• If the wound is slightly exuding, the product can be moistened with sterile physiological saline solution before application.

Application:

• Choose a product where the foam overlaps the wound edge by at least 1-2 centimetres. For larger products, at least 2 centimetres are recommended. Open the bag and remove the product from the packaging.
• Ensure aseptic handling when applying the dressing and avoid touching the unprinted side of the foam during application. Use tweezers if necessary.
• Apply the unprinted side of the foam to the wound.
• A second dressing is necessary for fixation. Do not cover the entire product with an occlusive secondary dressing.

Removal:

• The product should be changed when clinically indicated, when exudate is visibly approaching the edge of the foam or after 7 days.
• Carefully remove the secondary dressing/fixation and then gently lift the corners of the product and remove from the wound. If the product is difficult to remove, it should be moistened with water or physiological saline until it is easy to remove.
• The product may cause temporary discolouration of the wound bed, which can be removed by gentle washing.

Disposal:

• The product is intended for single use only and should be disposed of in accordance with local guidelines, e.g. with normal household waste.
• Do not dispose of the product in the toilet.

Ingredients

• Active medical ingredient: This product contains silver in an average amount of 0.95 mg per cm² of foam.
• Biatain Ag non-adhesive is a soft, flexible, absorbent polyurethane foam dressing with patented silver complex.
