Aptamil Protein+ is a food for a balanced diet. For the dietary management of premature babies with a very low birth weight (less than 1000 g).

For the dietary treatment of premature babies with a very low body weight (< 1,000 g) whose protein requirements cannot be met by conventional premature baby foods/products.

Properties

• As an addition to fortified breast milk (with breast milk supplement, e.g. Aptamil FMS) or premature infant formula (e.g. Aptamil Prematil or Aptamil Prematil HA) to meet the higher protein requirements of premature infants with very low body weight (< 1,000g) and thus support adequate growth and optimal development
• Hydrolysed protein
• Whey protein : casein = 50 : 50
• Nutrient ratio: protein : carbohydrates : fat : fibre = 97 : 3 : 0 : 0 (in % of total energy)

Application

As small quantities are required, the dosage is best carried out by weighing. A measuring spoon is therefore not included in the pack. For premature babies < 1,000g, a protein intake of 3.6-4.1g/100kcal is recommended (ESPGHAN 2010). If used with breast milk: If possible, determine the protein content of breast milk* and add breast milk supplement (e.g. Aptamil FMS) according to instructions. Add the required amount of Aptamil Protein+ to achieve the recommended protein level of 3.6-4.1g/100kcal. It is recommended to measure the blood urea nitrogen (BUN) content. *Without measuring the protein content of breast milk, the protein content of breast milk from premature babies or mature breast milk specified in the specialist literature should be used. When used with premature infant formula: Premature infant formula contains approx. 3.3g protein/100kcal. To adjust the protein content, add 0.4-1.0g Aptamil Protein+ per 100ml of food to achieve the recommended protein level of 3.6-4.1g/100kcal. It is recommended to measure the blood urea nitrogen (BUN) content.

Preparation:

1. Consume immediately after opening.
2. Use with the utmost care and strict hygiene standards and in a sterile environment to prevent risks of microbiological contamination.
3. Wash hands.
4. Weigh powder and add to food.
5. Prepare food freshly before each meal and administer within 2 hours.
6. Do not reuse leftovers.
