The black cumin plant belongs to the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae), of which there are around 20 species, including ornamental plant species native to Europe, such as the "damsel in the green" (Nigella damascena) and the wild field black cumin, Nigella arvensis. The variety used for Alpinamed Black Cumin Oil forte capsules is Nigella sativa L., the so-called "true black cumin", which is mainly found in the Middle East.
